WHAT IS HULLED HEMP SEED?

Hulled hemp seed, shelled hemp seed, hemp hearts or hemp nuts are all the same thing. They are simply the soft centre of the hemp seed. By carefully removing the outside layer of the hemp seed (the outer shell) reveals a soft center rich in essential oils, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fibre. Hemp seed is the only known food in the world where this unique balance naturally occurs.

WHAT DOES THE HEMP SEED TASTE LIKE?

Unlike fish oils and other sources of essential fatty acids, shelled hemp seed has a mild, slightly nutty flavor. Most people enjoy the taste and often eat it right out of the bag.

HOW DOES IT INCREASE MY ENERGY & MENTAL CLARITY WITHOUT CONTAINING A STIMULANT?

Shelled hemp seed contains a unique blend of essential fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and trace minerals. This powerful and unique combination, within minutes of ingestion, gives many people a long-lasting surge of physical energy, mental focus, and sense of well-being.

The essential fatty acids (EFA’s) otherwise known as Omegas are literally food for the brain. Our brains require and demand these EFA’s to function properly and help us to navigate our daily lives with mental clarity and mood stability.

It has become extremely popular as a protein source for body builders who have experienced negative side effects from Whey Protein supplements. With the use of hemp protein professional body builders are now able to eat a vegetarian diet and still compete at the highest level.

WHAT MAKES HEMP SEED DIFFERENT THAN FLAX & OTHER SEEDS?

Hemp seed has a perfect ratio of EFA’s (essential fatty acids) and should be eaten in quantity every day. The ideal EFA ratio for human health is 3 or 4:1 omega-6 over omega-3.

Flax seed has the opposite balance of 1:4 omega-6 over omega-3. Flax seed, and most other sources of EFA’s, when eaten in quantity everyday, can create improper EFA imbalances.

Hemp seed is one of the only plants in the world to contain sizeable amounts of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA may play an important role in the etiology of many diseases. Recent studies have shown that GLA and its metabolites are effective in the suppression of inflammation, in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, atopic eczema, and certain cancers such as malignant human brain giloma.

Also, unique to hemp is a powerful protein called globule edestins. This protein is only found in hemp seed and is uniquely similar to globulin found in human blood plasma.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP AND MARIJUANA

Industrial Hemp is NOT Marijuana!

However hemp and marijuana are distant cousins and they do have very similar physical properties but industrial hemp is from a plant family called Cannabis Sativa; whereas marijuana is from the plant family Cannabis Rasta, Cannabis Indica or Cannabis Ruderalis. Hulled Cannabis Sativa seeds do not contain THC resin. The Cannabis Sativa plant cannot get you stoned or high.

Industrial hemp or hemp seed contains litterally no THC ( < 4 ppm ) whereas marijuana does contain THC.

THC  or “tetrahydrocannabinol” is the chemical compound that effects the brain and makes people feel intoxicated.

WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD OF THIS FOOD SOURCE BEFORE?

Well…

Since the beginning of recorded human history hemp has been one of the world’s most widely used natural resources, but in 1936 the U.S government introduced the Marijuana Tax Act which made it impossible for hemp farmers to make a living. The rest of the world followed suit thereafter and the rest is now history.

Hemp and marijuana are distant cousins but because they have similar physical properties, corporate influences were able to launch a successful fear campaign, in which the two cousins were forever linked. Hemp’s association with marijuana was firmly planted in people’s minds through years of propaganda, backed by corporate lobby groups, and perpetuated by the Hearst media empire; who just so happened to have a major stake in the pulp and paper industry.

It was not possible to hold a patent on hemp, and corporate America knew that hemp could undermine the value of many of its industrial patents and pharmaceutical drugs. Plus it was the single largest threat to the pulp and paper industry because hemp grows nine times faster than any tree and can easily be made into paper.

As a result of this massive corporate pressure the hemp industry was successfully destroyed but in 1996, after 60 years, the Canadian government was the one of the first countries in the world to lift the ban on industrial hemp. Only in the last decade have Canadian farmers been permitted to grow hemp in quantity large enough to produce an economical food source.

Today the sale and consumption of hemp seed is now fully endorsed by both Health Canada and the USFDA as well as many other countries around the world and is quickly becoming a the natural leader in the health food industry.
